Man United Dump Arsenal Out Of The FA Cup Via Penalty Shout-out

Zirkzee’s Decisive Penalty Seal FA Cup Victory For Ten-Man United.

In a dramatic FA Cup third-round clash at the Emirates, Manchester United, reduced to ten men for nearly an hour, clinched a spot in the fourth round with a hard-fought victory over Arsenal, thanks to Joshua Zirkzee’s decisive penalty in the shootout.

The match kicked off with United showing early promise, but the turning point came when Diogo Dalot was shown a second yellow card in the 61st minute for a mistimed challenge on Arsenal’s Mikel Merino, leaving Manchester United to battle with ten players.

Despite the setback, United managed to take the lead shortly after halftime. A moment of brilliance saw Alejandro Garnacho capitalise on a slip by Arsenal’s Gabriel, setting up Bruno Fernandes for a stunning curled effort into the top corner to make it 1-0 in the 52nd minute.

However, Arsenal quickly responded. Just minutes after Dalot’s dismissal, Gabriel made amends by volleying home an equaliser, setting up a tense final hour of the match.

The game’s intensity peaked when Arsenal were awarded a penalty following a contentious tackle by Harry Maguire on Kai Havertz. After a scuffle that led to bookings for Maguire, Havertz, and Gabriel, Arsenal’s captain Martin Odegaard stepped up to take the spot-kick. Yet, United’s goalkeeper Altay Bayindir made a spectacular save, diving to his left to deny Odegaard and keep the scores level.

Arsenal had several chances to seal the match, with Declan Rice and Havertz both coming close, but Bayindir continued to thwart their efforts. As the game moved into extra time, Arsenal pushed for a winner, but United’s defence, particularly resilient with one man down, held firm.

The match went to penalties, where Bayindir again proved his worth by saving a penalty from Havertz. Joshua Zirkzee then stepped up for Manchester United, confidently sending Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya the wrong way to secure United’s advancement.

This result marks the third time in four seasons that Arsenal have been knocked out at this stage of the FA Cup, raising questions about their performance and tactical approach under Mikel Arteta in cup competitions.

What did you make of Arsenal’s display? Did they miss a golden opportunity to progress, or was it simply a case of United’s resilience shining through against the odds?
