First Bank Lays Foundation For Nigeria’s Tallest Building At Eko Atlantic.

First Bank of Nigeria Limited has taken a bold step towards reshaping Nigeria’s financial landscape with the foundation-laying ceremony for its 44-storey head office at Eko Atlantic, a development set to become the tallest building in the country.

The ceremony, held yesterday, brought together key figures from Nigeria’s political, financial, and business sectors, highlighting FirstBank’s role as a pioneer in the nation’s banking industry. The bank, which has been a pillar of the Nigerian economy for over 130 years, now aims to make a lasting mark on Eko Atlantic, often described as the Manhattan of West Africa.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who led the ground-breaking event, described the tower as a symbol of Nigeria’s progress and economic strength. He commended FirstBank’s resilience and innovation, stating, “For 130 years, FirstBank has been a pillar of our economy, empowering businesses, supporting families, and driving financial innovation. This tower will stand as a testament to our nation’s ambition and growth.”

Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Bank’s parent company, First HoldCo Plc, expressed his excitement about the project, calling it “the ninth wonder of the world.” He described the tower as the future engine room of FirstBank’s next phase of dominance, further solidifying its place as a leader in the financial industry.

Olusegun Alebiosu, CEO of FirstBank Group, highlighted the significance of the project in the bank’s ongoing transformation. “This new head office complex is not just about a modern architectural masterpiece; it is about reimagining banking for generations yet unborn. It will serve as a hub for financial innovation, digital transformation, and operational excellence,” he said.

The 44-storey skyscraper will be a state-of-the-art eco-friendly building, aligning with modern sustainability practices while reinforcing FirstBank’s corporate identity and strength. The initiative also reflects the bank’s commitment to driving economic growth and setting new standards in the banking sector.

Eko Atlantic, a massive land reclamation project from the Atlantic Ocean, is rapidly emerging as a major financial hub, boasting world-class infrastructure. FirstBank’s decision to establish its headquarters in this location positions it as a frontrunner in the evolving economic landscape of Nigeria and West Africa.

With construction now underway, the FirstBank Tower is set to become an iconic symbol of financial innovation and resilience, further cementing the bank’s status as a leader in Nigeria’s banking industry.
