Eurostar Services Suspended After WWII Bomb Discovered Near Gare du Nord.
Eurostar has suspended all train services between London and Paris on Friday following the discovery of an unexploded Second World War bomb near the tracks in the French capital.
The incident has caused major travel disruptions, leaving many passengers stranded at key stations such as Paris’ Gare du Nord and London St Pancras. Images and videos shared online have highlighted the impact of the cancellations.
Initially, Eurostar cancelled 12 services in the morning but later decided to halt all journeys for the day, citing safety concerns. The resumption of services will depend on the completion of mine clearance operations carried out by the French police.
While it is not uncommon for unexploded ordnance from the World Wars to be found in France, such discoveries in densely populated areas remain rare.
In a statement, Eurostar advised passengers:
“Due to an object on the tracks near Paris Gare du Nord, we are expecting disruption to our services this morning. Please change your journey for a different date of travel.”
France’s national rail operator, SNCF, confirmed that services at Gare du Nord would be suspended until mid-morning at the request of the police.
