Presidency Disowns 2027 Campaign Billboards, Calls Them Premature And Unauthorised.

The Presidency has firmly distanced itself from a wave of political billboards promoting President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 general elections, labelling the advertisements as premature and unauthorised.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga expressed concern over the increasing presence of such billboards in cities including Abuja and Kano, many of which feature the images of the President and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

“We have noted with dismay the emergence of these campaign billboards. Worth noting is that some of these billboards, bearing the pictures of the President and his wife, are springing up in Abuja and Kano in particular,” Onanuga stated.

While acknowledging the goodwill and loyalty of supporters, Onanuga made it clear that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima has endorsed or sanctioned any campaign activity for the 2027 elections. He emphasised that any campaign activity at this stage not only breaches electoral regulations but also risks compromising the integrity of the democratic process.

“The President has not authorised any individual or group to initiate a campaign on his behalf through any medium—whether it be billboards, print, digital, radio or television,” he said. “Until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) releases the official timetable for the 2027 elections, such campaigns remain inappropriate.”

Onanuga further stressed that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain fully focused on delivering their current mandate, which prioritises economic revitalisation, human capital development, infrastructure renewal, social investments, and national security.

He added that the President will communicate his intentions regarding the 2027 elections when INEC formally initiates the process.

In the meantime, the Presidency has issued a clear warning to those behind the ongoing campaign to desist from further action. “We urge those responsible for funding and disseminating these materials nationwide to cease immediately,” Onanuga concluded.

The statement reaffirms the administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral institutions.
