US Military Destroys Fuel Terminal In Yemen Amid Ongoing Strikes On Houthi Targets.
The United States military has confirmed the destruction of a fuel terminal in Yemen’s Red Sea port of Ras Isa, in its latest strike targeting the Iranian-backed Houthi movement.
According to the US, the operation aimed to disrupt vital fuel supplies and financial resources used by the Houthis, who have carried out repeated attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since the onset of the Israel-Gaza conflict in October 2023.
The Houthis, however, claim that Thursday’s airstrike resulted in the deaths of at least 38 people, including several paramedics. While the US military acknowledged the operation, officials have yet to comment on the reported casualties, Reuters news agency reported.
The strike is part of an intensified campaign by the US over the past month, targeting Houthi infrastructure in response to the group’s persistent assaults on international shipping routes. The Houthi attacks have severely disrupted maritime traffic through the Red Sea—a corridor responsible for nearly 15% of global seaborne trade.
The escalation in US military action follows growing concerns about the Houthis’ ability to undermine international shipping and destabilise the region. In an unusual twist last month, details of one such military operation surfaced after a journalist was mistakenly added to a private Signal group chat involving senior officials.
Tensions in the region remain high, with global powers monitoring developments closely as diplomatic and military efforts continue to address the threats posed by the Houthi movement.
