The Israeli ambassador, Yechiel Leiter, described the victims as a couple on the cusp of engagement. “The young man purchased a ring this week with the intention of proposing to his girlfriend next week in Jerusalem,” he said, highlighting the tragic loss for the couple’s families.
The shooting occurred outside an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee for young diplomats. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to public safety, and the investigation is currently underway.
