Ogun IPAC Urges Aggrieved Parties To Seek Court Redress Over By-Election Results

Ogun IPAC Urges Aggrieved Parties To Seek Court Redress Over By-Election Results.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ogun State has called on political parties dissatisfied with the outcome of the recent Remo Federal Constituency by-election to pursue legal redress rather than actions that could disrupt the state’s peace. The appeal was made by IPAC’s state chairman, Abayomi Sanyaolu, during a press briefing in Abeokuta on Wednesday, 20 August 2025.

The by-election, held on Saturday, saw Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing 41,237 votes against her closest rival, Bola Oluwole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 14,324 votes. Sanyaolu urged all parties to accept the results in good faith, stressing that the electoral law provides for aggrieved parties to seek justice through the courts. “If any political party is not satisfied with the conduct of the election, the best thing to do is to go to court to seek redress,” he said, citing IPAC’s successful legal challenge against the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission during last year’s local government elections.

Sanyaolu emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, stating, “We don’t want violence; all we want is peace for the state to continue to make progress.” He called for unity among political parties, urging them to avoid actions that could lead to unrest. The IPAC chairman’s remarks were echoed by Comrade Oginni Olaposi, factional National Secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who encouraged parties to approach the courts and prepare for future elections rather than causing disruption.

Abayomi Arabambi, factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, described the APC’s landslide victory as a “referendum” on Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership, particularly highlighting the impact of the multi-billion naira Agrocargo airport project in Iperu Remo. “The people of Remo have compensated the governor with this emphatic victory for his party,” Arabambi noted, crediting Abiodun’s developmental strides in the region.

The call for calm comes amid concerns raised on social media about potential tensions following the by-election. IPAC’s stance reinforces its commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence and upholding democratic processes in Ogun State, urging all stakeholders to respect the rule of law and allow the judiciary to address any grievances.
