Bisi Akande Leads APC Delegation To Mourn With Buhari Family In Kaduna.

Chief Bisi Akande, the pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Osun State, led a delegation of party leaders to Kaduna on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, to pay their respects to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. The visit followed Buhari’s passing last month in a London clinic at the age of 82, an event that has left a profound mark on Nigeria’s political landscape.

Akande, visibly moved, described the late president as “a patriotic leader” and “an angel in human flesh” whose legacy of service, integrity, and discipline would endure for generations. Recalling their last meeting in Daura, Katsina State, Akande noted that Buhari had appeared “robust, healthy, and very strong,” giving no indication of impending illness. “I first heard of his death while I was abroad. It was very painful, very, very painful,” he said, adding that his first duty upon returning to Nigeria was to visit the Buhari family to offer condolences and prayers.

The delegation, which included Senator Abu Ibrahim, former Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dares, APC stalwart Alhaji Mahmud Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment Silas Agara, and Convener of the Arewa Think Tank Mohammed Alhaji Yakubu, was warmly received at the Buhari residence in Kaduna. Former First Lady Hajiya Aisha Buhari and the late president’s eldest son, Yusuf Buhari, welcomed the group. Yusuf expressed heartfelt gratitude for the visit, describing it as a source of comfort during the family’s “most difficult moment.” He also extended thanks to President Bola Tinubu for ensuring a dignified burial and send-off for his father, which included a state funeral in Daura attended by dignitaries such as Tinubu and Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló.

Akande praised Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria, both as a military head of state and a democratically elected president, emphasising his unwavering patriotism. “He was a great Nigerian. His spirit will continue to live forever because of the good work he did for Nigeria,” he declared. The elder statesman’s sentiments were echoed across social media, with posts on X highlighting the visit as a testament to Buhari’s enduring influence within the APC and beyond.

The condolence visit underscores the deep respect for Buhari’s legacy, with Akande’s heartfelt tribute reflecting the late president’s impact as a unifying figure in Nigerian politics. The Buhari family vowed to uphold his values of integrity and service, ensuring his contributions continue to inspire future generations.
