The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced plans to publicly name and shame airlines that fail to comply with aviation regulations, particularly those responsible for flight cancellations and delays.
This decision follows a directive from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, aimed at enforcing stricter compliance within the industry.
The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, stated that airlines have a duty to provide hotel accommodation to passengers stranded between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. due to delayed or canceled flights. The NCAA will strictly enforce regulatory penalties and apply all sanctions available under existing rules for non-compliant airlines.
The authority will publicly name and shame airlines that violate consumer rights, starting immediately. Passengers are entitled to hotel accommodation at the airline’s expense if they are stranded overnight due to flight disruptions.
With these measures, passengers can expect improved accountability and safety in Nigeria’s aviation sector, as the NCAA ensures compliance with regulations, including the directive for passengers to power off mobile phones and electronic gadgets during takeoff and landing.
