Unidentified officials presumably from the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) have locked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Abia State Secretariat, which is located at 45 Finbers Road, Umuahia.
The sealing occurred on Wednesday, leaving party members and the public puzzled about the reasons behind such action.
The sealed Secretariat, which serves as a hub for PDP activities in the state, received no prior explanation for the closure. However, a notice posted on the building instructed occupants to visit the UCDA’s office located at 51 Ogurube layout, Umuahia, for further information regarding the situation.
In the middle of all of this, the PDP branch in Abia State is also involved in another divisive matter: the open seat in the Abia State House of Assembly that represents the Aba North constituency. In a statement signed by Vice Chairman/Acting Publicity Secretary Abraham Amah, the party demands that Aaron Uzodike, a PDP member who the Appeal Court deemed the winner of the March 18 election, be sworn in right away.
The PDP called the delay in filling the vacancy an act of impunity and voiced its grave concerns about it. Amah highlighted that Uzodike had all the required paperwork, such as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Certificate of Return, which certifies his win. In spite of this, the LP’s Destiny Nwagwu, who was ousted by the Appeal Court, remains in office.
“Why has the Speaker refused to swear him in?” Amah questioned, bringing attention to the party’s dissatisfaction with Uzodike’s inauguration delay.
