The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, has ordered a crackdown on uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts in Abuja.
This directive aims to tackle rising security concerns, including robbery, abduction, and car theft, which have been linked to abandoned and ongoing construction sites.
The police commissioner has directed all Divisional Police Officers to intensify patrols and conduct thorough raids on uncompleted buildings and suspected hideouts across the city. “The directive, which takes immediate effect, forms part of proactive measures to prevent criminals from using abandoned or ongoing construction sites as hideouts or operational bases,” said the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
Property developers are required to document and profile all artisans, laborers, and security personnel residing at construction sites before October 31, 2025. The police will arrest any unidentified person found loitering or sleeping at construction sites after 6 p.m. and conduct thorough profiling.
The operation is part of efforts to enhance the safety and security of lives and property in the FCT. Residents are urged to report suspicious activities and movements to the police, ensuring a collective effort to maintain security. “We will not allow criminals to find comfort or cover under the guise of abandoned or uncompleted buildings,” CP Ajao emphasized.
In a similar operation in August 2022, the police arrested 480 suspected criminals in uncompleted buildings in Maitama and Wuse II areas of Abuja. The police recovered items such as police uniforms, mobile phones, loaded pistols, machetes, and charms.
The FCT Police Command is determined to ensure that the capital city remains a fortress against criminal activity. With this latest directive, the police are signaling their commitment to maintaining law and order within the FCT.
