AC Milan was in action yesterday against Udinese as action returns in Serie A. But the game was marked with sad moment as racism keeps ruining the beautiful game.
AC Milan eventually won the match by 3 goals to 2 with goals from Loftus Cheek, Luca Jovic and Noah Okafor’s late strike enough to earn the maximum 3 point.
Udinese have in Goal Nigeria International Maduka Okoye, however, some set of fans were chanting the ridiculous words of “Monkey” towards AC Milan’s Mike Maigan.
The French Goalkeeper said after the game while speaking with the media.
“We can’t play football like this”.
“At the first goal kick I heard monkey chants and I didn’t say anything”.
“Second goal kick, they did it again so I called the bench and fourth referee”.
“There needs to be very harsh sanctions. Just talking does nothing”. He said.
And without doubt we can’t continue to have some uncultured set of people ruin the beautiful game of football. Racism shouldn’t be a topic we still have to talk about as at this moment in time, but unfortunately we still have a lot of work to be done to eradicate this shameful act.
Taking a knee before matches isn’t enough and the football world must come together to ensure stricter and enforced punishment against these perpetrators to send out a better statement.
