Africa emerges as a radiant powerhouse in the global diamond industry, as indicated by the latest data from the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) for 2022. Through Sputnik Africa’s meticulous analysis, the top ten diamond-producing nations on the continent are revealed, emphasizing their profound influence on the international market.

Botswana takes the lead in this shining narrative, solidifying its position as Africa’s premier diamond producer, trailing only behind Russia on the global stage. With a remarkable production volume of 24.5 million carats and a value surpassing $4.7 billion, Botswana’s diamond industry resonates across borders, leaving an indelible mark.

Following closely, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) claims second place among African nations and secures the fourth spot worldwide. With a production volume of 9.9 million carats and a value of $65 million, the DRC establishes itself as a formidable player in the global diamond market.

South Africa, renowned for its enduring history in diamond production, proudly holds the third spot among African contributors and the fifth globally. Producing 9.6 million carats, its contribution exceeds a production value of $1.5 billion, reflecting a commitment to excellence in diamond mining.

Angola further adds to Africa’s diamond prowess, securing the sixth position globally with an impressive production volume of 8.7 million carats and a value of $1.9 billion. This achievement highlights Angola’s dedication to sustainable and responsible mining practices, resonating with consumers worldwide.

The list extends to include Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Guinea, each making distinctive contributions to Africa’s dynamic diamond production landscape. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme plays a pivotal role in ensuring ethical mining practices, conflict-free diamonds, and sustainable development across these African nations, safeguarding the integrity and value of these precious gems and fostering consumer confidence on a global scale. Africa’s Diamond Dominance stands out as a beacon in the ever-evolving narrative of the global diamond industry.
