Nigerian rapper, actor, and social commentator, Falz, has been announced as one of the hosts of the upcoming All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), alongside a renowned Moroccan-Senegalese actress, Liliane Maroune, in a pairing that reflects the pan-African spirit of the prestigious event.

Organised by the International Executive Committee of AFRIMA in collaboration with the African Union Commission and in partnership with the Lagos State Government, the 2026 ceremony will run from January 7 to 11 in Lagos.

Falz Makes History on the AFRIMA Stage

With his selection, Falz becomes only the second Nigerian to host AFRIMA, following music icon 2Baba, who co-hosted the inaugural edition in 2014. Renowned for his sharp lyricism, acting range and fearless social commentary, Falz brings intelligence, humour and a commanding stage presence to the awards.

His career, which cuts across music, film and advocacy, has made him one of the most recognisable and respected voices of his generation—qualities that align seamlessly with AFRIMA’s global platform.

Liliane Maroune Brings Grace and Global Appeal

Joining Falz is Liliane Maroune, a Moroccan-Senegalese actress celebrated for her work across African and international screens. Her North and West African roots embody AFRIMA’s vision of unity across regions, while her poise and cross-border influence add elegance and depth to the ceremony.

Together, the duo represents a fusion of creativity, culture and contemporary African excellence.

A Legacy of Iconic AFRIMA Hosts

Over the years, AFRIMA has built a rich tradition of standout hosts drawn from across Africa and the diaspora.

Past editions have featured stars such as 2Baba and Maryse Acotie (2014); DNG and Aurélie Eliam (2015); Ahmed Soultan, Bonang Matheba and Ika De Jong (2016); Akon and Sophy Aiida (2017); Michael Blackson, Pearl Thusi and Anita Erskine (2018); Pearl Thusi and Eddie Kadi (2019 and 2021); and Ahmed Sylla, Sophy Aiida and Pearl Thusi at the eighth edition in January 2023.

Why AFRIMA Chose Them

Explaining the decision, AFRIMA Regional Director for Central Africa, Nde Ndifonka, described Falz as a host who brings “intelligence, strong ideas and a powerful African voice that connects with both young and old audiences.”

He said Liliane “embodies elegance, diversity and the contemporary African woman with international influence,” adding that both hosts “understand Africa, speak for Africa and live the African experience.”

Five Days of Music, Business and Culture

AFRIMA 2026 will unfold across five packed days. Festivities begin on Wednesday, January 7, with a Welcome Soirée for nominees and guests at the British Deputy High Commission House in Lagos.

The Africa Music Business Summit follows on Thursday, January 8, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, bringing industry leaders together to shape the future of African music.

On Friday, January 9, fans will gather at Ikeja City Mall, Alausa, for the AFRIMA Music Village, before the Nominees and Industry Party on Saturday, January 10.

All Roads Lead to Awards Night

The grand finale—the Main Awards Show—will hold on Sunday, January 11, at the Eko Convention Centre. The red carpet rolls out at 3:00 pm (WAT), with the ceremony broadcast live to more than 84 countries.

With Falz and Liliane Maroune at the helm, AFRIMA 2026 is set to deliver not just awards, but a powerful statement of African unity, creativity and global influence.
