Airline Operators Applaud Tinubu For Halting 4% Import Levy

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for suspending the four per cent Free on Board (FoB) levy on imports, describing the move as a major relief for the aviation industry.

In a joint statement signed by AON President, Dr. Abdulmunaf Sarina, and Vice President, Dr. Allen Onyema, the operators also commended the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for his role in upholding the President’s vision of a business-friendly environment.

According to AON, the suspension demonstrates Tinubu’s commitment to protecting critical sectors and fostering sustainable economic growth. The group noted that enforcing the levy would have raised airline operating costs, further burdening an industry already battling multiple challenges.

The operators further hailed Edun for showing patriotism and responsiveness, adding that his decision reflects fairness and a strong commitment to carrying out the President’s mandate.

“This bold and thoughtful intervention will safeguard aviation, protect jobs, reduce inflationary pressures, and keep Nigeria competitive in the global business environment,” the statement read in part.

AON reiterated its readiness to collaborate with the government in strengthening aviation and advancing Tinubu’s vision for national development.
