The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has charged the newly inaugurated management of the South South Development Commission, SSDC, to focus on transforming the region through effective policies, transparency, and developmental projects that will improve the lives of the people.
Akpabio, who spoke during the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, said the Commission carries a huge responsibility to drive economic growth and social progress in the South South. He emphasized that the SSDC must prioritize infrastructure, education, and job creation, especially for youths and women.
He urged the leadership of the Commission to work with governors of the region and other stakeholders to ensure that development projects directly impact the communities. According to him, the South South region, being rich in natural resources, deserves visible progress that reflects its contribution to the nation’s economy.
The Senate President also appealed to the SSDC team to operate with accountability and integrity, stressing that their performance would be judged by how effectively they deliver on their mandate.
Akpabio assured them of the National Assembly’s support and collaboration to ensure that policies promoting equitable development in the Niger Delta and South South are implemented without delay.
The SSDC management team pledged commitment to the goals of the Commission, promising to work diligently to meet the expectations of the people and bring lasting transformation to the region.
