Alex Iwobi Proud of Choosing Nigeria Over England, Says Nigerians are Easily Noticeable Everywhere.

Fulham and Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has affirmed his decision to represent Nigeria over England, a choice he says he has no regrets about. Speaking in an interview with Kiss Fresh in London, Iwobi emphasized his deep connection to Nigeria and the unique atmosphere of Nigerian football.

“I actually felt more at home in Nigeria,” Iwobi said. “Football out there is like a festival, it’s like a party. You go into the game, you see people blowing trumpets and drums, it doesn’t even feel like a proper match. I was like, ‘Yeah, this is where I belong.'”

Iwobi, who represented England at the youth level up to under-18, made his senior international debut for Nigeria in October 2015. He praised the vibrant and welcoming culture of Nigeria, noting that the country’s hospitality and sense of community make it special.

“My favorite thing about the country is that everyone is so welcoming, rich in hospitality, and it’s like one big family,” he said. “Everyone who is doing well tries to give back to their communities. Every footballer that I am with always tries to give back to where they come from. That’s an amazing thing.”

The former Arsenal star also highlighted the distinctive traits of Nigerians, particularly the Yoruba people, known for their loud and expressive mannerisms.

“You can smell a Nigerian from a mile away. Our mannerisms are so Nigerian, especially Yoruba people. Yoruba people are so loud,” Iwobi added with a smile.

Reflecting on his personal experiences, Iwobi shared his love for Nigerian cuisine and his go-to meal upon arriving in Nigeria. “The first thing I do whenever I land in Nigeria and I’m in my hotel room, I order pounded yam and egusi,” he revealed.

Iwobi’s comments underscore his pride in his heritage and his commitment to representing Nigeria on the international stage. His passion for Nigerian football and culture continues to inspire fans both in Nigeria and around the world.
