Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield has stated the role of public-private partnerships in tackling global challenges such as food insecurity and the misuse of synthetic drugs.
Addressing the Security Council, she urged for increased collaboration between the public and private sectors to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Highlighting her commitment to these partnerships, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield announced the launch of the “Alliance to Prevent Drug Harms.” This initiative, developed in collaboration with the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime and major tech companies Meta, Snap Inc., and X Corp, aims to curtail the illicit use of online platforms for spreading synthetic drugs. The Alliance will facilitate communication between government bodies and industry leaders to share evidence-based practices for drug-prevention campaigns and swiftly disrupt the online distribution of synthetic drugs.
In another significant event on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield hosted a dialogue featuring Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations Michele Sison, alongside executives from Google, Bayer, and Inari. The discussion focused on innovative tools and strategies the private sector is deploying to enhance global food security.
