American Woman Released By Taliban After Detention In Afghanistan.

An American woman, Faye Hall, who was detained in Afghanistan, has been released by the Taliban, according to a social media post by a former U.S. ambassador. Her release comes just days after the United States lifted multimillion-dollar bounties on three senior Taliban officials.

Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan and Iraq, confirmed Ms. Hall’s release on Saturday, sharing an image of her seated between two men and smiling. He stated that she was now in the care of Qatari officials in Kabul and would soon return home.

Ms. Hall was arrested in early February alongside a British couple, Peter and Barbie Reynolds, and an interpreter. The couple, both in their seventies, had been running educational and training projects in Afghanistan for 18 years. However, reports indicate that the British nationals remain in detention.

According to British media, Afghan guards had to use force to separate Ms. Hall from Ms. Reynolds when she was being removed from detention, as the two had vowed to stay together until all four detainees were freed.

Ms. Hall expressed gratitude following her release, in a video shared by former U.S. President Donald Trump, thanking him for his role in securing her freedom.

Earlier this month, Adam Boehler, a U.S. hostage envoy, visited Kabul in the first known diplomatic engagement of its kind since the Taliban seized power in 2021. His discussions with Taliban representatives led to the release of George Glezmann, another American who had been detained in Afghanistan for over two years.

The recent lifting of bounties on leaders of the Haqqani network, a faction of the Taliban, has been seen by many within the Taliban as a diplomatic victory. Some within the group have been advocating for a more moderate approach to governance in an effort to gain international recognition.

While Ms. Hall’s release has been welcomed, concerns remain for other foreign nationals still in detention, including the Reynolds couple. The U.S. government has yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding her release.
