The Anambra State Police Command has begun enforcing the tinted glass permit regulation, advising motorists to register their vehicles with tinted glasses through the official portal.
This move aims to enhance public safety and curb crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and attacks on residents.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the exercise is based on credible intelligence that some criminals use vehicles with unauthorized tinted glasses to evade security checks and perpetrate crimes. “The ongoing enforcement of tinted glass permit is not intended to punish road users, but to ensure public safety,” Ikenga said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has appealed to motorists to cooperate with officers, stressing that the enforcement is strictly a security strategy to enhance safety across Anambra. “Criminal elements exploit unauthorized tinted glasses to conceal their identities and beat security checkpoints. This measure will help curb such crimes and protect law-abiding citizens,” the statement read.
Some motorists have parked their vehicles fitted with tinted glasses, pending further clarification, as traffic was noticeably lighter on several roads across the state. However, no enforcement teams were sighted in most areas.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has issued an interim order suspending the enforcement of tinted glass permits pending a substantive hearing. However, the police have not yet received the court order halting the enforcement nationwide.
The Anambra State Police Command assures citizens that the rights of citizens will be respected during the enforcement. Motorists are advised to register their tinted vehicles through the official portal which is safe, easy, and self-guided.
