In an exhilarating display of prowess, British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua, emerged victorious over Robert Helenius in their heavyweight boxing clash at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday night.
Joshua, the former heavyweight champion, secured a decisive knockout win over his Finnish opponent in the seventh round, solidifying his dominance in the ring.
The electrifying triumph marked Joshua’s first knockout victory since December 2020, when he defeated Kubrat Pulev in a successful defence of his WBA, IBO, IBF, and WBO titles.
Notably, Helenius replaced the banned Dylian White just one week before the bout, lending an element of unpredictability to the showdown.
The powerful punch delivered by Joshua in the seventh round left Helenius needing oxygen, although he eventually recuperated and personally congratulated Joshua before leaving the ring unassisted.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, expressed confidence in the boxer’s renewed form, stating, “He finds the measure of his right hand and he delivers one of the knockouts of the year on Robert Helenius… this is just the AJ you’re going to see now.”
Hearn acknowledged that while Joshua’s aggression still needs refinement, the victory showcased his potential and marked a pivotal moment in his career.
This win adds to Joshua’s recent successes, following his decision victory against Jermaine Franklin in April.
Joshua’s record now stands at 26 wins and three defeats, with an impressive 23 of his wins achieved through knockouts.
The 33-year-old fighter’s journey continues as he looks ahead to his anticipated bout against Deontay Wilder in January 2024.
Wilder, who knocked out Helenius in the first round of their previous encounter last October, presents the next challenge in Joshua’s remarkable career.
