APC Alleges Mismanagement At Osun Mother-Child Hospital, UNIOSUN CMD Rejects Claims

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State on Monday accused the management of Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUN) of allegedly looting a federally sponsored mother-child hospital in Osogbo.

APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, claimed in a statement that the 100-bed facility, commissioned in 2022 under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, had been mismanaged by the hospital. According to Olabisi, the hospital, which includes four labour rooms, operating theatres, VIP wards, and offices, has suffered neglect, with equipment reportedly being looted by state government officials.

He urged the Federal Government to intervene and devise strategies to recover the hospital’s equipment and revamp the facility for public use, describing the situation as politically motivated.

However, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Emmanuel Afolabi, refuted the allegations, insisting that the claims of looting were false. He explained that the facility was handed over to UNIOSUN management three years ago but remained largely unused due to personnel shortages, as many staff had left the country.

Dr Afolabi added that some equipment, mostly battery-operated, was relocated for accreditation purposes following due process and proper audits, with security agencies aware of all inventory movements.

“The reality is that there is nothing like looting. Osun State is for all of us, and we are committed to moving the state forward regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
