APC Chieftain Urges Politicians To Cease 2027 Election Distractions For Tinubu

APC Chieftain Urges Politicians To Cease 2027 Election Distractions For Tinubu.

Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has called on politicians to refrain from dragging President Bola Tinubu into premature discussions about the 2027 presidential elections. Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, 29 June 2025, the former lawmaker and member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council urged political actors to allow the president to focus on addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, including economic recovery and insecurity.

Oyintiloye expressed concern over the growing clamour surrounding the 2027 polls, noting that the administration is only two years into its term. “It is becoming nauseating, to say the least. The 2027 election is still over a year and a half away, and yet those chasing positions won’t allow the president to work,” he said. He highlighted that Tinubu inherited a troubled economy in 2023, marked by a ballooning debt profile, a volatile naira, and an unsustainable fuel subsidy regime. Through key reforms, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates, the president has begun to restore hope among Nigerians, Oyintiloye argued.

The APC chieftain stressed that the president requires collective support, prayers, and solidarity to tackle national issues, rather than distractions caused by political manoeuvring. “The president is facing serious tasks to keep the economy healthy, defeat insurgency, and fix critical infrastructure. These efforts need our backing, not unnecessary power struggles,” he added. Oyintiloye pointed to Tinubu’s technocratic approach, which he said has yielded tangible results, as evidence that the administration deserves the opportunity to focus on governance.

This plea comes amid heightened political activity, with billboards and campaign materials promoting Tinubu’s potential re-election already appearing in cities like Abuja and Kano, despite no official timetable from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The presidency has previously distanced itself from such campaigns, with Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga warning that unauthorised efforts violate electoral laws. Oyintiloye’s remarks also follow his earlier criticisms of opposition parties, whom he accused of blaming Tinubu for their internal crises and defections to the APC.

As Nigeria navigates economic hardships and security challenges, Oyintiloye’s call underscores the need for unity and focus on governance. With the 2027 elections still distant, the APC chieftain’s message serves as a reminder to prioritise national development over political posturing.
