The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially adopted a consensus method for its forthcoming governorship primary election in Ekiti State, following the withdrawal of one of its cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, confirmed the development, explaining that the decision was made in line with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act and the APC Constitution. He said Omolayo’s withdrawal and endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji paved the way for the consensus arrangement.
According to reports, Mrs. Omolayo voluntarily withdrew from the race and expressed full support for Governor Oyebanji to emerge as the party’s flag bearer. In her letter to the party’s leadership, she pledged her loyalty and promised to work with all stakeholders to ensure the party’s unity and victory in the upcoming election.
Morka noted that the party has duly communicated the decision to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), fulfilling the requirements under Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act, which allow for a consensus mode of primary election.
He further announced that the APC Delegate Congress would hold on Saturday, October 19, while the Delegate Congress Appeal is scheduled for October 26. The Special Nomination Congress to ratify the consensus candidate will then take place on October 27.
Commending Omolayo for her show of maturity and party loyalty, Morka urged APC leaders, members, and stakeholders in Ekiti to remain united and work tirelessly towards ensuring the party’s victory in the June 2026 Governorship Election.
