Appeal Court Upholds Death Sentence For Hotelier In OAU Student’s Murder.
The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has confirmed the death sentence for well-known hotel owner Dr Ramon Adedoyin, convicted for the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The decision was delivered on Thursday, endorsing the earlier judgment by the Osun State High Court.
The appeal against the sentence was reserved on October 29, 2024, with the court announcing its final decision this week. The judgment read, “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”
However, not all aspects of the original ruling were upheld. The court also quashed and set aside the order for the forfeiture of Hilton Hotel and the directive for Adedoyin and others to provide educational scholarships for the children of the deceased, Timothy Adegoke.
Adegoke’s tragic death was discovered in November 2021 at Adedoyin’s Hilton Honours Hotel in Ile-Ife, where he had been staying. The case has drawn significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the accused and the horrific circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
This ruling solidifies the legal consequences for Adedoyin, marking a significant moment in Osun State’s judicial history while also igniting discussions on crime, justice, and the responsibilities of business owners in ensuring the safety of their patrons.
