Army Chief Vows To Sustain Offensive Against Bandits In Katsina.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining its offensive against bandits in Katsina State, ensuring lasting peace for Nigerians.
Speaking to journalists after an operational visit to the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Natsinta, Katsina, Lt.-Gen. Oluyede emphasised that the troops would continue their efforts until banditry is eradicated. He was received by the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Babatunde Omopariola.
“I am here to assess the operational activities of the 17 Brigade, identify their challenges, and determine how quickly we can address them. Our goal is to ensure they are fully equipped to carry out their duties effectively,” he stated.
The Army Chief noted that the troops had made significant progress in the fight against banditry and urged them to intensify their efforts.
“You will agree with me that the Brigade has been performing well. I have come to encourage them to do even more so that we can completely eliminate bandits from the state and create a safer environment for residents,” he said.
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede reiterated that the military’s primary responsibility is to defend the nation and assured that the offensive would continue until all threats in the region are neutralised.
“Our duty as soldiers is to protect Nigeria. As part of this mandate, we must ensure that all bandits in this area are eliminated so that Nigerians can live in peace,” he affirmed.
The visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s resolve to tackle insecurity and restore stability in Katsina and other affected regions.
