Arsenal Football Club has informed teenage Nigerian forward Nefeye Osaze that he will not be offered a new contract ahead of the 2026-2027 season.
The decision means Osaze is free to start exploring opportunities with other clubs as he approaches a critical stage in his football career.
The timing of the decision aligns with common practice among English clubs, which usually review academy players’ futures around this period. Such decisions allow young players to plan their next steps before the start of the new season.
Under Premier League regulations, all players in their U17 year must begin the upcoming campaign on a scholarship agreement. These agreements help players transition from academy status toward becoming eligible to sign their first professional contracts upon turning 17.
Osaze, who has been a key player at Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, played a significant role in helping the team win the Premier League U13 National Cup. Despite his achievements at youth level, the club has decided not to extend a scholarship or professional deal to him.
Arsenal youth expert Jeorge Bird confirmed that the club, managed by Mikel Arteta, had officially informed Osaze that no deal would be offered. This news underscores the highly competitive nature of academy football, where only a limited number of players progress to professional terms.
