Arsenal’s Title Hopes Down The Drain As Striker Woes Continue.
Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions appear to be slipping away, despite manager Mikel Arteta refusing to concede defeat publicly.
The Gunners’ goalless draw against Nottingham Forest has left them 13 points behind leaders Liverpool, with their struggles in front of goal once again taking centre stage.
In their last two league matches, Arsenal have managed 33 shots but registered only three on target, failing to score in both games for the first time since May 2023. With a lack of attacking options, midfielder Mikel Merino was forced to play as a makeshift striker.
Arteta acknowledged his side’s attacking problems, stating: “We dominated the game. We tried in many different ways. We insisted but lacked that spark, that final pass to unlock a well-organised team. We have to generate more shots on target.”
Injuries to key forwards Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kai Havertz have only compounded Arsenal’s issues, and it seems likely they will intensify their search for a proven goalscorer in the summer.
Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, highlighted the need for a striker. “We have always needed a striker. We tried in the transfer window and now hopefully there is one lined up in the summer, but that will be a bit too late.”
Seaman believes a new centre-forward could be “the final piece of the jigsaw” to turn Arsenal into genuine title contenders next season.
However, Arsenal will face stiff competition in the transfer market, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Aston Villa all expected to be in the hunt for a top-class striker. Finding the missing piece may not be easy, but it is a challenge Arsenal cannot afford to ignore.
