Arteta Confirms Major Injury Setback For Arsenal As Martin Ødegaard Is Ruled Out For A Lengthy Period

Arsenal Face Major Setback As Odegaard Is Ruled Out With Significant Ankle Injury.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the club will be without captain Martin Odegaard for an extended period due to a significant ankle injury. Following recent scans, it was revealed that the Norwegian midfielder has suffered damage to one of the ligaments in his ankle, leaving the team without one of their most influential players.

Speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League encounter against Atalanta, Arteta expressed the gravity of the situation: “He’s our captain. He’s been one of the biggest and best players in our team. Our identity is very linked to how he plays and behaves. It’s a big test for the team to see how able we are to show a different face.”

Odegaard has been a key figure in Arsenal’s midfield, contributing not just with goals and assists but with his leadership on and off the pitch. His absence will be a major blow as the Gunners navigate both domestic and European campaigns.

Arteta Reflects on European Struggles

Reflecting on Arsenal’s form away from home in European competitions, Arteta acknowledged the difficulties of performing consistently on the road: “If we want to be at the level we want to be, we have to be really good on the road and at home. We have to continue to be very consistent. In Europe, it’s very tough to win, just like in the Premier League. Hopefully, we can be better.”

The Arsenal manager highlighted the fine margins that often determine results in European football, noting: “You don’t know the opponents that well, and then boxes become crucial. There are small moments that define the games. In Europe, you’d better be at your best.”

Injury Boost with Calafiori and Saka Available

In more positive news, Arteta confirmed that Riccardo Calafiori has returned to training and will be available for selection. The Italian full-back, who joined the club in the summer, will be included in the squad for Arsenal’s upcoming fixture.

Additionally, Bukayo Saka, one of Arsenal’s star players, completed most of the training session today and will be available for the next match. Saka’s availability is a significant boost for the team, given his importance in attack.

As Arsenal look to bounce back from recent setbacks and navigate the season without Odegaard, the depth of Arteta’s squad will be put to the test in the coming weeks.
