Workers of Kwara State-owned media have vowed to commence a two-day warning strike on Tuesday and Wednesday this week following the failure of the state government to treat them and cultural workers as essential staff. A Nigerian woman, Dr. Olusimbo Ige has been appointed as Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), thus becoming first black female to occupy the position.  Mayor Brandon Johnson officially announced the appointment. In a bid to expand access to clean energy for 17.5 million Nigerians, the World Bank has approved the Nigeria Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) project, being financed by $750 million International Development Association (IDA) credit and would leverage over $1 billion of private capital and significant parallel financing from development partners. The financing from development partners include $100 million from the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet and $200 million from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, has announced that it paid over N1.7 billion to customers of revoked microfinance banks (MFBs) and four primary mortgage bank (PMBs) licenses. The portal of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, will open for registration for remobilization of absconded Corps members on Monday, 18th December, 2023. A statement signed by Eddy Megwa, Director, Press and Public Relations, explained that remobilization is a second chance process for Corps members that did not complete their service year when they were initially mobilized for national service. “All Corps Members in this category are enjoined to avail themselves of this golden opportunity,” the statement said. The National Coordinator, South-South Leadership Forum, Sara-Igbe, on Saturday said Governor Siminalayi Fubara offered to resign his position before the crisis in the state escalated to the level it currently is.
