Senator Uba Sani, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate has been declared the winner of the governorship election in Kaduna State. INEC’s Returning Officer for Kaduna State, Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis made the announcement on Monday night. He said Sani polled 730,002 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isa Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 719,196 votes. The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Jonathan Asake polled 58,283 votes while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate, Suleiman Hunkuyi scored 21,405 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has suspended further collation of governorship election results in some parts of Abia and Enugu states. INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye disclosed this in a statement issued Monday in Abuja. According to him the Commission met earlier on Monday and reviewed the conduct of the Governorship and State Assembly elections held nationwide on Saturday 18th March 2023. The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the Plateau State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Caleb Mutfwang, as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election. The result declared by the INEC Presiding Officer, Musa Yusuf, after counting the votes scored by parties that participated in the election shows that Mutfwang had the highest votes beating the All Progressives Candidate, Nentawe Yilwatda. Recall that the PDP governorship candidate was reported to be taking an early lead as of 11 am when INEC resumed collations of results from the 17 local government areas of the state.
Supporters of the two leading political parties in Enugu State have stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, headquarters, in Enugu, as tension heightens over the collation of the governorship election results. The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday declared the governorship election in Kebbi as “inconclusive”. The election was keenly contested by the two giant political parties, the All Progressives Congress and the peoples Democratic Party. The Kano State government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew with a view to avoiding a breakdown of law and order following tensions generated from the collation of results of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state. The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Mallam Muhammad Garba, said this in a statement issued Monday morning. According to him, the decision was “to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tensed situation.” The commissioner called on people in the state to “remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone or group bent on causing trouble.”
