Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of imputing wrong figures while transferring results to the backend server. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed that old N200, N500, N1,000 notes will remain legal tender until December 31, 2023. The apex bank’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin, announced this in a statement on Monday. AbdulMumin stated that the CBN took the decision based on the Supreme Court’s ruling of March 3, 2022. “Accordingly, the CBN met with the Bankers’ Committee and has directed that the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes remain legal tender alongside the redesigned banknotes till December 31, 2023. “Consequently, all concerned are directed to conform accordingly,” the statement read in part.…

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has assured the legal team of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, that all documents used during the February 25 election would be made available for inspection. The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Monday, commenced sitting in an appeal filed by Mr Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against a judgment of the tribunal which invalidated his election as Governor of Osun State. The three-member panel of justices began sitting in the appeal at about 10am. While Adeleke is the appellant, Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are 1st and 2nd respondents in the appeal marked: CA/AK/EPT/GOV/01/2023. The website of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has crashed amid the commencement of a recruitment exercise. Checks by our correspondent on Monday found that the agency’s website indicated ‘500 internal server errors. The agency’s recruitment application began on Sunday and was expected to last for two weeks. However, for hours now, applicants cannot access the website. The Governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles Soludo confirmed on Monday that the Central Bank of Nigeria has asked commercial banks to dispense and accept old naira notes as deposits. Soludo, a former CBN governor, made this known in a statement he posted on his social media handles.
