The Yobe State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has advised eligible voters in the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, for the forthcoming general elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said it had registered 1.3 million eligible voters in the state. Some power experts have condemned the increase in electricity tariff, describing it as arbitrary and calling for the immediate reversal of the increase. The experts who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday said the sudden increase was illegal. The naira on Wednesday exchanged at 461.25 to the dollar at the Investors and Exporters window. The figure represented an appreciation by 0.05 per cent compared with the 461.50 it exchanged on Tuesday. The open indicative rate closed at N461 to the dollar on Wednesday. An exchange rate of N462 to the dollar was the highest rate recorded within the day’s trading before it settled at N461.25. The naira sold for as low as 440 to the dollar within the day’s trading. Tragedy struck on Wednesday evening, when a storey building at number 12 Aromire Avenue, opposite Dominos Pizza, Ikeja, suddenly collapsed killing one yet-to-be-identified person. The incident, according to eyewitnesses, occurred at about 6.45 pm, when the building, still under construction, partially collapsed. The Lagos State Government has declared a four-day work-free day for public servants to enable them collect their Permanent Voter Cards at their respective local government/local council development areas in the state. The Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who confirmed the development in a circular issued on Wednesday, said the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, graciously approved the work-free day for the public servants. The Debt Management Office, DMO, yesterday announced plans to raise up to N1.2 trillion through FGN bonds in the first quarter of the year 2023. The DMO disclosed this in its FGN Bonds issuance calendar for Q1 2023. Among other things, the calendar shows that the DMO will sell between N320 billion and N400 billion worth of FGN bonds in each of the three months in Q1 of 2023.
