United States President Joe Biden has firmly stated that nothing would prompt him to withdraw from the presidential race.
This declaration comes in the wake of his recent debate performance on June 27 against former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump, which sparked calls for Biden to step aside.
Various voters, political analysts, and stakeholders have expressed concerns regarding the president’s health and mental alertness following the debate. In an interview with ABC News on Friday, Biden emphasised that only divine intervention would convince him to abandon his re-election bid.
“If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get outta the race,’ I would get outta the race. The Lord Almighty’s not coming down. I mean, these hypotheticals,” Biden remarked. “I don’t think anybody is more qualified to be president or win this race than me.”
Biden highlighted his motivation for seeking a second term, stating, “Look, I’m running again because I think I understand best what has to be done to take this nation to a completely new level. We are on our way. We are on our way.”
Addressing criticisms regarding his age and fitness for office, Biden dismissed these concerns, pointing to his accomplishments. “I see all these stories that say I am too old. Was I too old to create 15 million jobs? Was I too old to erase student debt for five million Americans? Do you think I’m too old to beat Donald Trump?” he challenged.
The White House has reiterated that President Biden is not backing down from the race, despite the mounting concerns.
