Boko Haram’s Unexpected Move: Buhari’s Name Proposed As Negotiator

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has made a startling revelation about the Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction.

According to Jonathan, Boko Haram once nominated President Muhammadu Buhari as a negotiator in a bid to secure Nigeria’s Chibok schoolgirls. In a recent interview, Jonathan expressed his surprise at the nomination, but he did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding it.

The Chibok abduction occurred in 2014, when over 270 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram from their school in Chibok, Borno State. The incident sparked widespread outrage and a global campaign, #BringBackOurGirls, demanding their release. While some of the girls have been rescued or escaped, many remain in captivity. Jonathan reflected on the Chibok abduction, saying that the “scar” of the incident would “die with him.” He expressed regret over the handling of the situation and the fact that many of the girls remain in captivity.

“I am surprised they would mention Buhari’s name,” Jonathan said, referring to the Boko Haram nomination. The former president did not provide further details about the nomination, leaving many questions unanswered. The revelation has sparked reactions across Nigeria, with many calling for more to be done to secure the release of the remaining girls and address the ongoing security challenges in the country.

The Chibok abduction has left a lasting impact on Nigeria and the world. Many of the girls who were kidnapped have been subjected to unimaginable trauma, and their families continue to suffer. The Nigerian government has faced criticism for its handling of the situation, and the incident has highlighted the need for more effective measures to address the Boko Haram insurgency.

As the country continues to grapple with the aftermath of the Chibok abduction, Jonathan’s revelation serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges of dealing with terrorism. The nomination of Buhari as a negotiator raises questions about the potential for dialogue and the role of prominent Nigerians in resolving the conflict.

The fate of the remaining Chibok girls remains uncertain, and their families continue to hold on to hope that they will be reunited with their loved ones. As the Nigerian government works to address the ongoing security challenges in the country, the Chibok abduction serves as a reminder of the need for effective action to protect the lives of citizens and promote national stability.
