Bandits have abducted about 38 worshippers from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State and reportedly placed a ransom of N100 million on the head of each victim.
A community leader and Olori Eta of Eruku, Chief Olusegun Olukotun, confirmed that four of his relatives were among those abducted. He said the kidnappers have begun contacting families demanding the huge ransom.
The attack occurred during a church service, leaving residents terrified and raising concerns about the growing insecurity in the area. The gunmen stormed the church and forcibly took worshippers away, creating panic in the community.
Chief Olukotun explained that families are struggling to raise the ransom, warning that the situation could escalate if not addressed promptly. He called on authorities to intervene and ensure the safe release of the victims.
The incident has highlighted the vulnerability of rural communities in Kwara State, with locals urging both the federal and state governments to take stronger security measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of abducted worshippers or the ransom figure officially, but residents and community leaders say the reports are credible and demand urgent action.
