Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North in Nigeria’s Senate, has died at age 62.
His son, Jideofor Ezea, said in a statement that the senator passed away at about 11:07 p.m. on November 18, 2025, in a private hospital in Lagos after a brief illness.
During his time in the Senate, Ezea served as Chairman of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions. He later became Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committees on Housing and Urban Development, Cooperation & Integration in Africa / NEPAD, and Culture & Creative Economy.
He was known for sponsoring a bill to establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Adani, and for advocating the creation of a proposed Adada State. He also moved a motion calling for a military base in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in Enugu to address recurring herder attacks.
Before his Senate career, Ezea was a founding member of the All Progressives Congress in Enugu. He was elected to the Senate in 2023 on the Labour Party platform, and he previously served as Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, in Taraba State.
He is survived by his wife, Chioma, and four children.
