Breaking News! Akon Arrested In Georgia After Being Listed As A Wanted Individual

Musician released on bail after warrant tied to September traffic stop

Famed Senegalese-American musician Akon was arrested in Georgia last Friday. The arrest followed a wanted‐person alert triggered by a white Tesla Cybertruck registered to him, according to the Chamblee Police Department in the Atlanta suburbs.

The Incident & Arrest

  • On Friday, November 7, 2025, police from the Chamblee Police Department, a suburb of Atlanta (Georgia, U.S.), took Akon (legal name Aliaune Badara Akon Thiam), into custody.

  • The arrest occurred after a traffic-camera system (“Flock” camera), flagged a white Tesla Cybertruck registered to him at an auto-styling business (Tint World on Chamblee Dunwoody Road).

  • Upon arriving, officers confirmed that the vehicle was linked to an out-of-county bench warrant issued by the Roswell Police Department.

  • Akon was detained at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office jail and later transferred to another facility under Roswell’s jurisdiction. He was released the same day, after approximately six hours in custody.

What Led to the Warrant

  • The warrant stemmed from an incident on September 10, 2025, when Roswell police found Akon’s Tesla Cybertruck stranded on Holcomb Bridge Road with a dead battery.

  • At that time, officers discovered that:

    • His driver’s licence had been suspended since January 2, 2023, due to a missed court date.

    • The vehicle had no valid auto-insurance on file.

    • An illegal vape was found in the center console of the vehicle during the stop.

  • After the September citation for driving with a suspended licence and no insurance, Akon failed to appear in court — prompting the bench warrant that led to the November arrest.

Response & Statement

  • Akon’s representatives claim that the suspended licence issue was a clerical error: they assert the fine or citation had been paid, but the matter was “not properly entered into the system.” A court date to rectify that is expected in early December.

  • At the time of his arrest, Akon was reportedly on a performance tour in India.

  • No additional charges beyond the bench-warrant arrest have been publicly announced.

Implications & Context

  • Akon is a five-time Grammy-nominated artist and known for hits such as “Smack That,” “Lonely,” and “Locked Up.”

  • While this incident appears to stem from a traffic-related issue rather than a violent offence or major crime, it nonetheless adds another legal complication to his public profile.

  • The arrest highlights how failure to appear in court, coupled with traffic infractions (suspended licence, lack of insurance), can escalate into arrest warrants — even for high-profile individuals.

  • For Akon’s team, the important next steps will be resolving the pending court appearance and ensuring the suspended-licence annotation is cleared in the system to avoid further legal disruption.

What to Watch

  • A court hearing is expected in early December to address the clerical-error claim.

  • Whether any additional charges or civil penalties arise from the September incident.

  • If the arrest impacts his touring schedule or any ongoing business ventures.

  • Whether the vehicle (the Tesla Cybertruck), remains impounded or if there are insurance/licence repercussions.
