In response to alarming reports of the alleged deportation of youths from Lagos to Ilesa and its surrounding areas, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State issued a directive today, May 6, to bolster security measures in the region.
A statement from Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the disturbing incidents where youths were reportedly rounded up in various locations across Lagos and subsequently transported to Ilesa. The youths were allegedly dumped at several junctions, including the Ilesa-Akure Express, Breweries; Ilesa-Ibodi-Iginla to Ife Express; Osun Ankara Express; Imelu Express; and Iperindo Express junctions.
Governor Adeleke, expressing shock over the matter, revealed that he had reached out to his Lagos State counterpart, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, regarding the issue. Sanwo-Olu, according to Adeleke, denied authorising any such action and has pledged to investigate the matter thoroughly.
In his statement, Governor Adeleke said, “I am subsequently directing our security agencies in Osun to mount surveillance in and around Ilesa to track the deported youths and their destinations. I will update our people on this development. I urge residents to be calm while the security agencies carry out surveillance.”
The directive comes amidst growing concerns over the welfare and safety of the deported youths, with Governor Adeleke assuring the public of swift action and updates as the situation unfolds.
