Breaking News: Iran Launches Ballistic Missile Attack On Israel, Escalating Tensions.

Explosions rocked Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Friday evening as Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting Israel, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two nations. The Israeli military reported over 10 missile impacts, with strikes occurring near the Israeli Defence Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv, prompting widespread alarm and forcing residents into bomb shelters.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attack, codenamed “True Promise 3,” asserting it was a retaliatory response to Israeli airstrikes earlier that day on Iranian nuclear and military sites, which killed senior commanders and nuclear scientists. Iranian state media also reported that its air defences shot down two Israeli fighter jets, with one female pilot allegedly captured after ejecting over Iranian soil. However, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) dismissed these claims as “fake Iranian media,” with IDF Arabic-language spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee stating, “This news being spread by Iranian media is completely baseless.”

The Israeli military confirmed that its Iron Dome air defence system intercepted many of the incoming missiles, but several strikes caused damage in Tel Aviv, including a residential building hit in the city centre. Israel’s national ambulance service, Magen David Adom, reported seven injuries in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, with one person in moderate condition and six others lightly injured by shrapnel.

Israeli officials condemned the attack in the strongest terms. An unnamed political source, quoted by Israel’s Channel 12, declared that Iran would “pay an unbearably heavy price for its fire at civilian areas,” hinting at potential retaliatory strikes on Iranian energy and infrastructure targets. Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that Iran had “crossed the red lines,” signalling Israel’s intent to respond decisively.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, addressing the nation, described Israel’s earlier strikes on Iran as a “preemptive” operation targeting Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme and military capabilities. “It’s clear Iran is just buying time; it refuses to agree to the basic requirement of peaceful nations. That is why we have no choice but to act and act now,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.

The international community reacted swiftly to the escalating crisis. U.S. President Donald Trump urged Iran to negotiate a nuclear deal, warning of “even more brutal” Israeli attacks if it refused. The U.S. clarified it had no military involvement in Israel’s strikes but affirmed its support for Israel’s right to self-defence. Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned Israel’s actions, calling for both sides to return to negotiations.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed to “inflict heavy blows” on Israel, describing the Israeli strikes as a “declaration of war.” Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, called on the United Nations to act against Israel’s “warmongering.”

The missile attack caused widespread disruption in Israel, with air raid sirens blaring across the country and Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv closing its airspace. Videos circulating on social media showed bright flashes and plumes of smoke rising over Tel Aviv’s skyline, though it remains unclear whether the damage resulted from missile impacts or interceptions.

In Jerusalem, BBC correspondent Ione Wells reported hearing explosions and spotting drones overhead, moments after sirens urged residents to seek shelter. “This is the response from Iran that Israel has been expecting – all across the country, people are listening to the sound of their country at war,” Wells noted.

The conflict has raised fears of a broader regional war. Iraq and Syria closed their airspace, and Jordan reported “airborne objects” falling in several regions. The United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, confirmed that Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was unaffected but expressed concern over potential damage to the Natanz nuclear facility.

As the situation unfolds, Israel has vowed to continue its military operations, with the IDF stating that its air force is actively targeting missile launchers and drone infrastructure in Iran. Analysts warn that the tit-for-tat strikes could spiral into a full-scale conflict, with devastating consequences for the region.

For now, Israelis remain on high alert, with the government urging citizens to stay near bomb shelters. The world watches anxiously as the two adversaries stand on the brink of further escalation.
