Premier League Clubs Clear PSR Hurdles For 2023-24 Season.
Interesting information from financial arm of English football, the Premier League has announced that no clubs will face charges for breaching its Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2023-24 season. This marks a clean slate for all 20 clubs in the top flight, who submitted their financial accounts by the deadline of 31 December.
Under the PSR, clubs are permitted a maximum loss of £105 million over a three-year period. The league’s rigorous financial checks have concluded that all clubs have adhered to these regulations, ensuring the financial health and competitive integrity of the competition.
This news comes as a relief following last season when both Everton and Nottingham Forest were penalised for PSR breaches. Everton faced an eight-point deduction, while Nottingham Forest lost four points, illustrating the severity of non-compliance.
In contrast, Leicester City, who were also under scrutiny, managed to avoid sanctions after successfully appealing against a charge related to their financial activities up to the end of the 2022-23 season. An independent panel determined that the Premier League lacked jurisdiction over Leicester since they had been relegated to the EFL Championship by the time their accounting period concluded on 30 June 2023.
A joint statement released by Leicester City and the Premier League on Tuesday highlighted that the issue is still under confidential arbitration proceedings, suggesting that further developments could follow.
