“American Rapper, Busta Rhymes Eyes Nigeria In His Quest For A Wife.”

“Hip-Hop Icon Busta Rhymes Hints at Starting a New Chapter in Nigeria”

American hip‑hop legend, Trevor Smith Jr., better known by his stage name Busta Rhymes, has set social media alight after hinting that he may be on the lookout for a Nigerian wife as part of plans to settle down in Nigeria in the future.

The 53‑year‑old rap icon — known for his rapid‑fire lyrical style and energetic performances — made the comments while performing at the Detty December Fest held in Ilubirin, Ikoyi, Lagos on December 19, 2025. It was his first time back in Nigeria in 15 years, and he made it clear that the trip held a personal significance beyond just music.

Addressing the cheering crowd, Busta Rhymes said:

“Even though it took 15 years, we are home. This trip was special to me because it wasn’t just about a show. I’m looking for a home here, I’m looking for property. I’m thinking about looking for a wife so that when I stop working, I can settle down here.”

His remarks — which included a light‑hearted prediction of “a few Nigerian slash Jamaican grandchildren” in his future — quickly became one of the most talked‑about moments of the night, drawing loud cheers from fans and a wave of online discussion.

A New Chapter for a Hip‑Hop Veteran

Busta Rhymes — a Grammy‑nominated artist and one of hip‑hop’s most influential figures since the early 1990s — is currently unmarried and has never been married, though he is a father to six children from relationships with four different women.

Fans and cultural commentators have responded with a mix of excitement and curiosity about what his comments might mean for his personal life — and what it says about the growing cultural ties between American artists and Nigeria’s vibrant music and entertainment scene.

Why Nigeria?

Nigeria has emerged in recent years as a major hub for global music and culture, particularly through the rise of Afrobeats and strong collaborations with international stars. Busta Rhymes’ decision to speak about settling down here — especially while headlining one of Lagos’s biggest festive concerts — underscores the country’s growing appeal beyond music.

Whether his search for a Nigerian wife turns into a serious pursuit remains to be seen — but one thing is certain: his remarks have already made headlines and ignited conversations about love, legacy, and cultural connection across continents.
