The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr ‘Bosun Tijani, has projected that 90 percent of Nigerians should be digitally literate by 2030.
Tijani stated this on Thursday when he made a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.
“We have a programme called digital literacy.
“The plan is that by 2030, 90 percent of Nigerians should be digitally literate. Digital literacy doesn’t mean that you become a technical talent but it gives you the foundation to be able to choose that you also want to participate in the digital economy.”
According to the minister, the Federal Government has plans to train three million Nigerians in technical skills in the next few years.
He disclosed that his ministry is collaborating with state governments to accomplish the vision and make the initiative well-supported.
The minister further said that the Federal Government plans to set up hardware training centres in popular tech hubs like Aba in Abia State and Computer Village in Lagos State.
Tijani said the aim is to advance manpower development and expand job opportunities for over 200 million Nigerians.
