Nigeria and Benin Face Another Showdown in CAF Confederation Cup.

In yet another twist of fate, Nigeria and Benin will face off once more, this time in the CAF Confederation Cup. El-Kanemi, representing Nigeria, will go head-to-head with Benin’s Dadje FC in the opening round of the prestigious tournament. This encounter follows their draws in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

El-Kanemi, determined to make their mark in continental football, will be keen to secure a strong start against Dadje FC. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s other representative, Enyimba FC, has been exempted from the first round. As eight-time Nigerian champions, Enyimba’s reputation precedes them, and they await the winner of the clash between Hafia and Rahimo of Burkina Faso.

The CAF Confederation Cup, Africa’s secondary club football competition organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), offers a platform for clubs across the continent to showcase their talent and compete for glory. The tournament, established in 2004, runs parallel to the CAF Champions League and provides an opportunity for clubs that did not qualify for the top-tier competition to still contend for a prestigious title.

Next season’s CAF Confederation Cup promises thrilling encounters, with teams from all over Africa vying for the coveted trophy. The tournament structure includes multiple rounds, culminating in a final where the champions are crowned. It also serves as a significant stepping stone for clubs aiming to compete in the CAF Champions League in subsequent seasons.

El-Kanemi and Dadje FC’s matchup adds an intriguing subplot to the ongoing rivalry between Nigeria and Benin, as both nations seek to assert their dominance on the African football stage. With Enyimba poised to join the fray in the later stages, Nigerian football fans will be eagerly watching to see if their clubs can triumph in the Confederation Cup and bring continental honours back home.
