CAF President Patrice Motsepe Praises Kenya’s Progress Ahead Of 2027 AFCON.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed his satisfaction with Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during his visit to the country on Sunday. Kenya, alongside East African neighbours Tanzania and Uganda, is set to co-host the prestigious biannual football tournament.

Motsepe, who arrived in Kenya ahead of a crucial CAF Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Monday in Nairobi, was accompanied by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Kipchumba Murkomen, and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President, Nick Mwendwa. Together, they visited the stadia that will host the 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) and the 2027 AFCON.

The CAF President inspected ongoing construction and renovation works at the Kasarani, Nyayo, and the new Talanta Sports City stadia. Speaking after his tour, Motsepe expressed optimism about the progress made so far, noting that he would return to Kenya in December when the works at Kasarani and Nyayo are expected to be completed.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Murkomen reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that the facilities are completed on time. The brand-new Talanta Sports City, which is being built from the ground up, is projected to be finished by December 2025.

Monday’s CAF Executive Committee meeting in Nairobi will be led by Motsepe and is expected to ratify Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania as co-hosts of the next edition of CHAN. The meeting will also address CAF’s financial statements and confirm the hosts for upcoming women’s and age-grade competitions.

Motsepe’s visit underscores CAF’s confidence in Kenya’s ability to deliver world-class facilities ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
