Despite the victory, head coach of the team feels his team didn’t utilize their chances enough.
Stanley Eguma, the technical adviser of Rivers United, expressed disappointment over his team’s inability to capitalize on their opportunities in their recent victory against USM Alger.
The Pride of Rivers secured a narrow 1-0 win against the Algerian side at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday, with Augustine Okejepha scoring the lone goal of the quarter-final first-leg tie.
In a post-match interview, Eguma acknowledged the team’s efforts in creating chances but emphasized the need to improve their conversion rate.
“We worked hard to create chances, but unfortunately, we couldn’t convert them,” he stated. “We will analyze our performance and address these lapses before the return leg in Algiers.”
Reflecting on the scoreline, Eguma expressed gratitude for the victory, highlighting its significance.
“We are thankful for the win because that’s what matters the most,” he remarked. “As we prepare for the return leg in Algeria, we will focus on putting up a strong fight and aiming for a better result.”
The return leg is scheduled to take place at the Stade du Juliet next Sunday.
