Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 2025 World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings scheduled to begin on Monday in Washington DC.
The high-level gathering will bring together global finance leaders to discuss key economic issues and strategies for sustainable development.
According to a statement released by the Presidency, Cardoso is attending the event in his capacity as Nigeria’s alternate governor at the World Bank and IMF. He will represent the country on behalf of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who is currently indisposed.
The delegation also includes the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, alongside other senior government officials. Their mission is to engage international financial institutions and development partners on Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms and efforts to stabilise the economy.
The Presidency noted that the meetings will feature major sessions such as the Development Committee Plenary on October 16 and the International Monetary and Financial Committee meeting on October 17. These sessions will address global financial stability, climate resilience, and inclusive growth.
Other key events during the week include regional briefings, policy dialogues, and press conferences focusing on global economic trends, debt management, and international development priorities. Nigeria’s participation is expected to strengthen its partnership with global financial stakeholders.
In the statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to transparent fiscal management and sustainable reforms aimed at boosting investor confidence and driving economic recovery.
