The House of Representatives has recently passed a bill aimed at adjusting the salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of judicial office holders across the country.
Under this proposed legislation, the Chief Justice of Nigeria is slated to receive a total monthly package of N5.39 million.
President Bola Tinubu submitted the executive bill to the Green Chamber on Tuesday, outlining the proposed remuneration adjustments for various judicial positions.
According to the bill, justices of the Supreme Court would receive a total package of N4.21 million monthly, while the President of the Court of Appeal would earn N4.48 million monthly.
Additionally, justices of the Court of Appeal would be entitled to a total monthly package of N3.73 million. Other judicial office holders, including the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, President of the National Industrial Court, and others, are set to receive a total monthly package of N3.53 million.
The proposed monthly package encompasses basic salaries and regular allowances such as car fueling and maintenance, personal assistance, hardship, entertainment, utilities, security, outfit, journal subscription, medicals, service allowances, restricted or forced lifestyle, dual responsibility, and legal researchers.
Furthermore, the House approved additional job-related allowances not included in the total monthly package. These allowances encompass leave allowances, estacode per night of $2,000 where applicable, duty tour allowances, and severance gratuity of N80.78 million upon completion of a tenure. Additionally, judicial officers have the option of a motor vehicle loan, which must be repaid before the expiration of the officer’s tenure.
