The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a strong warning to criminal elements threatening Nigeria’s peace, declaring that their days are numbered as the Nigerian Army is prepared to take decisive action against them.
Speaking at the 2025 ‘Exercise Vulcan Glow XI’ Study Period held at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State, the army chief said the force would not relent in its mission to safeguard the country from adversaries. He was represented at the event by Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, the Deputy Chief of Training of the Army.
General Oluyede emphasized that the exercise was designed to sharpen the artillery corps’ combat readiness and enhance their fire support capabilities in line with the evolving nature of warfare. He noted that the Nigerian Army must continue to innovate and adapt to emerging technologies in modern warfare to remain effective.
“The Nigerian Army will not rest until every threat to peace and security is neutralized. To those undermining the nation’s stability, your time is running out,” Oluyede warned, stressing the importance of discipline, training, and innovation among artillery personnel.
He commended the artillery corps for its ongoing research, maintenance, and indigenous equipment development efforts, describing them as crucial steps toward self-sufficiency. He also assured continuous support for the corps’ projects aimed at transforming its repair and maintenance operations into world-class facilities.
The Commander of the Corps of Artillery, Major General Zakaria Abubakar, described the annual exercise as a vital component in improving the effectiveness of artillery personnel in conventional and counter-terrorism operations. He said the training would culminate in a live-fire demonstration to showcase the corps’ readiness to deliver accurate and powerful fire support across operations nationwide.
