The Ketu Advancement Forum, a community group in Ogun State, has made an appeal to the National Assembly for their support in expediting the consideration and passage of a bill proposing the establishment of the Federal College of Geological and Cement Studies in the Yewa North area of the state.
In a letter of appreciation addressed to Senator Solomon Adeola, the representative of Ogun West Senatorial Constituency and sponsor of the bill, the group conveyed their gratitude for his role in sponsoring the bill. They highlighted that the bill had recently passed its first reading in the Senate and underscored the college’s potential to contribute to the industrialization of the state and the nation. The college is expected to provide valuable skills for the youth, making them more competitive in the labor market.
The letter was signed by Kunle Abiose, the Coordinator-General, and Dotun Adeleye, the Secretary-General of the Ketu Advancement Forum.
“We particularly commend your focus on the promotion of the next generation of human capital that will take up the challenge of industrialization of Ogun State and Nigeria, as well as support the government’s drive for the diversification of the nation’s economy through the establishment of the College.
“We did not only find your legislative acumen in this regard highly commendable but also inspiring to our younger generations, who are daily yearning for relevant skills that will give them a head start in the ever-dynamic labour market locally and internationally,” it said.
The community group highlighted the significance of the college in Iselu and Ketuland, known for having one of the largest limestone deposits in Nigeria and urged Adeola to use his legislative influence to garner support for the bill’s speedy passage and the establishment of the college.
It added, “It is on this note that we like to fervently urge you to deploy all your legislative sagacity at mobilising members of both Chambers of the National Assembly to kindly support the speedy passage of the bill and the establishment of the college.”
